An Epic Celebration of 27 Years of Marriage
In honor of our 27th year of marriage together, my husband planned something special for us. On this sweltering June day of 115-degree weather, we loaded our kayaks into our truck and headed out for an adventure.
We visited three waterfalls on this particular day—Crystal Falls, Sweet Creek Falls, and Pee-Wee Falls—all of which were located in the northeastern part of Washington State.
The Beautiful Crystal Falls
Our first waterfall destination of the day was Crystal Falls, a lovely 30 ft. waterfall descending along the Little Pend Oreille River located about 14 miles east of Colville, Washington, along SR-20.
It wasn't our first time enjoying the breathtaking views of the cascading water from this location. The beautiful Crystal Falls nestled amongst a backdrop of trees and beautiful forest; continues to draw us back time and time again for another peek at its mighty grandeur. We have visited the falls during the thick of winter, and it is a serene scene to behold.

Our Time Spent at Sweet Creek Falls
Our next destination was Sweet Creek Falls, located at the Sweet Creek Rest Area about 1 ½ mile south of Metaline, situated on the North Pend Oreille Scenic Byway and the Selkirk Loop. (State Route 31)
The intense heat of the summer day must have detoured many tourists from sightseeing on this particular day. We arrived at an empty, spacious parking lot with restroom facilities. We quickly located a picnic table burrowed into a shaded path of trees in which we were able to take refuge from the direct sun and enjoy a picnic lunch.
After our romanticized picnic in the heat, we ventured to visit the multi-tiered waterfalls located a short distance from the parking area. The path was charming, as we were surrounded by trees and wooded forest with a slight incline before we came to a concrete footbridge overlooking the majestic waterfalls. Here we stopped and looked upon the beautiful cascading water flow. The sounds and sights of nature were inspiring and captivating to all the senses. We took a few photos and continued along a narrow path that led us past a small den-like cave, allowing for another photo opportunity. Soon we found ourselves at the base of the top-tiered waterfall.
We spent a bit of time immersed in the tranquility of the moment. I kicked off my shoes and waded into the reservoir, fully engaging myself in the refreshing pool of water. I also created a bit of art by stacking stones into a balanced formation, which always brings peace to my mind.
After our refreshing time spent near the spout of the waterfall, we backtracked and found a splendid little trail on the opposite side of the parking lot, leading us along the river's edge and into the depths of the forest. The path was easy to stroll upon, and the views were rather inviting.
Our time spent here was blissful and rewarding. We most certainly recommend you explore this waterfall for your own enjoyment.

Our Grand Finale
The grand finale of our day led us to Boundary Dam on the Pend Oreille River. We arrived at the reservoir recreation area in the mid-afternoon. Pee-Wee Falls was just a short distance away but was only reachable by watercraft; for this reason, is why we brought our kayaks.
The excitement of finding Pee-Wee Falls was mounting. Soon we would be kayaking our way to the most spectacular hidden gem of waterfalls.
We unloaded our gear at the dock, liberally applied sunscreen, and made sure to have lots of fluids to stay hydrated on this scorching hot afternoon. Whatever the weather, it's always an adventure.
We emerged into the open water with our kayaks and stayed to the right, following the river banks until we could hear the rushing, roaring thunder of the waterfalls. The sight of the waterfalls came into view, and it was utterly remarkable. It drew us into its compelling beauty as we sat in awe and wondered over its cascading flow over the rock cliffs above. The mists of water droplets swirled around us, cooling our bodies from the hot summer sun. It felt magical as if we could reach out and become one with this magnificent sight; such a powerful and mesmerizing moment to behold. We sat in the presence of Pee-Wee Falls and soaked in the refreshing renewal of wholeness of mind, body, and spirit.
Twenty-seven years of commemorated love and marriage were honored in this very moment as we celebrated at the base of this enchanting waterfall and rainbow.
The grand finale of the day was most certainly worth every anticipated moment and wait in getting there.

A Perfect 10 for the Books
Some of the most beautiful things to experience in life are wild and free. Our accumulated adventures of the day were the most stunning and romanticized wedding anniversary adventure we've had to date.
If you are an outdoor enthusiast and enjoy chasing waterfalls and kayaking, this is a must for your bucket list of things to experience.
