Highlights of a Trip to Manali Hill Station in India

Manali has always been Rajinder's love. He has explored many places in and around Manali, Bhuntar, and Mandi and has written many articles.

Visiting Manali Is Unforgettable

The beauty, weather, and culture of Manali is totally different and unique from other hill stations. I have traveled to many other hill stations in India with my friends and family, but when I visited Manali for the first time in June 2010, I decided that Manali is the best. Before my visit, people used to say that Manali is the Switzerland of India, and I have found that this is totally true.

Adventure Sports Abound

During my visit, I found that Manali features a lot of adventure sports, like river crossing, valley crossing, bungee jumping, and adventure bridge climbing in Club House Manali and Van Vihar, as well as whitewater rafting in Beas River in Kullu. There's also zorbing, hot air ballooning, and mountain biking in Solang Valley, just 15 km from Mall Road.

The Weather Is Pleasant in Summer

The weather was always pleasant during our June visit, and it increased our appetite both for having fun and eating. My daughter, my wife, and I spent only two nights and three days in this beautiful place, and we felt close to nature and adventure at the same time.

All the recreational activities we did in those three days refreshed us, and we felt more active at the end of the trip than we had before. I wish to return to this unforgettable place in the wintertime—sometime in December—to see it covered in ice.

Below, I have shared some pictures and information about some important sightseeing places in Manali.

Village Heart Cottage

1. Village Heart Cottage, Kanyal Road, Simsa Village

We were told by the car driver and hotel chefs that Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and actress Priyanka Chopra sometimes come here to spend their leisure time in Manali. Kanyal Road in Simsa Village is just 2 km from Manali, but it is the most peaceful and beautiful place, as it is away from the usual crowded areas like Mall Road.

In Kanyal Road, there are a lot of beautiful cottages, and most of them have their own apple orchards and trees. Also, the cottages provide a spectacular view of the mountains, some covered with ice and some covered with greenery. You can even see the clouds kissing the mountaintops here.

Whenever I visited Kanyal Road after sightseeing or coming from Mall Road, I found that the temperature was always 2–3° less than it was in those places, making this area extremely cold in the mornings.

2. Lord Vishnu Temple

Above is a picture of Lord Vishnu Temple, which is situated 10 km away from Manali on the way to Naggar. The complex and surroundings of this temple are really peaceful. You can only hear the chirping sounds of birds and animals coming from the mountains and valleys. We spent at least half an hour in this place.

3. Hadimba Temple

Hadimba Devi Temple is very old, dating back to the time of Mahabharata in 1533 A.D. This temple is surrounded by at least 2.5 km of wooden deodar forest, which is maintained by the travel and tourism agency of Himachal Pradesh.

This temple is famous for a big festival that is held every year in May. The complex offers many adventurous activities, as well as entertainment.

  • Garden: On the right side of the Hadimba complex, you can see a big garden where there are more than 10–15 swings and rides for children.
  • Amusement Park: In the backyard of the temple, there is a big amusement park where you can enjoy rides on yaks, gun shooting, bungee jumping, valley crossing, bridge crossing, and many more rides.

There are fun activities for both adults and children, as you can see in the photos below.

You can see a lot of rabbits in the Hadimba Devi Temple Complex, and you can hire one for shooting some snaps.

There's So Much to Do in the Temple Complex

We spent at least four hours in this complex, as it was full of different types of activities. It was well worth the visit, especially because my 2.5-year-old daughter learned bungee jumping for the first time in her life.

We also visited the Tibetan monastery in Manali. There are some shops outside this monastery complex selling Tibetan carpets, handicrafts, and different types of gift items.

5. Van Vihar

This place is really beautiful, and it is worth spending time over here. Van Vihar is just a few steps away from Mall Road and includes recreational activities like boating, swings for kids and adults, river crossing, bungee jumping, and bahma bridge. However, the main reason for visiting Van Vihar is the feeling of eternal peace you experience while sitting in the lap of the Beas River and the amazing mountains.

Above are some pictures we shot at Van Vihar. We visited twice in our three-day trip just because we loved the beauty of this place.
