Utah's Spectacular Millcreek Canyon and Nebo Loop in Winter

Author:

Whenever I have free time with my husband, we like going out spending time by doing activities together such as hiking in the canyon.

Utah has the best snow on earth. The canyon is covered with powdery and white snow. I love to be out in the morning during this time of year.

Beautiful and Breathtaking Canyons

After living in Utah for many years, I have come to love hiking during wintertime. Utah is so beautiful during this time of year. Every canyon and valley is blanketed with powdery white snow. Most mornings, I hike up to the mountain with my husband to enjoy the crisp air. In addition to smelling the clean and fresh air, we like to appreciate the beauty and charm of nature.

The last two weekends in November, we went to Millcreek Canyon and Nebo Loop. Millcreek Canyon is a beautiful mountain canyon in the Wasatch Mountains and part of Millcreek City on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley.

The Nebo Loop is situated in Uinta National Forest between the cities of Nephi and Payson. It climbs to over 9,000 feet in elevation and provides breathtaking views of Utah Valley, the Wasatch Mountains, and 11,928-foot Mount Nebo, the tallest mountain in the Wasatch Range.

Millcreek Canyon

I have never missed a visit to Millcreek Canyon during fall—this place is so enchanted during that time. The leaves are so vibrant in red, pink, yellow, and orange. Millcreek Canyon has a variety of trails for hiking.

But wintertime is almost more spectacular, when the canyon is blanketed with white snow. While we were hiking, we stopped to take some pictures in the surrounding area. This canyon is famous for outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, walking, trails, skiing, and mountain biking. If you are an enthusiastic outdoor-activity fan, this place would be perfect for your next adventure!

We parked our car at the picnic area and decided to hike up along the trails. It was cold that morning. We were prepared with jackets, hats, boots, and gloves. We hiked for almost two hours. We came across a few other people who were jogging with their dogs, and some who were hiking like us. Before leaving, I took a few photos to add to my photo collection.

Note: There is a $5.00 fee per vehicle paid upon leaving Millcreek Canyon.

Nebo Loop

I was very excited as this was my first time going to the Nebo Loop. We left quite early that morning as we prefer to escape the traffic. From Salt Lake City, it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there. As we were getting closer to our destination, the road passed through forest communities ranging from oak and juniper to aspen and spruce-fir. As we increased in altitude, I could feel that my ears were about to pop. My heart was beating quite fast because I could not wait to get out of the car to explore.

From the top, we were treated to breathtaking views from Mount Nebo. The snow covered the ground, and it was quite cold, but I was prepared that day with a jacket, boots, hat, and scarf. I took some time to walk around and play in the snow.

We saw several pullouts with scenic overlooks, informational signs, and trails located along the byway. I was a little bit disappointed about not coming here during fall. I imagine the byway was very beautiful bright with fall foliage.

In the moment, I thought to myself that this was one of my favorite scenic drives because I got to see the gorgeous view, especially the Wasatch front and Utah county and the mountains and the valley. I felt fortunate to witness such an incredible display of nature on earth.

Excited for More!

I'm excited to continue exploring and sightseeing in this area. While it is beautiful in any season, there is nothing quite like the beauty of winter in Utah.

Utah is such a spectacular state by way of nature. My mother, niece, and I once spent two weeks there visiting many state parks and all of the national parks. We started by flying to Salt Lake City, rented a car, and ended up back there to fly home. It was during the summertime. Thanks for showing us some of the winter scenery where you got to hike.
