My family and I recently spent a three-day weekend at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. It is the largest shopping mall in the United States. It even has its own zip code. It took us two full days to get through the mall and enjoy most of the activities there. One of the great things about the Mall of America is that there is something for the whole family to enjoy.

Layout of the Mall of America

The Mall of America is laid out with all of the stores in an outer rectangle which surrounds the amusement park in the middle. The Sea Life Aquarium is located underneath the first floor of the mall. The mall offers free parking in their outdoor parking lot. In addition, free parking is offered in the garages located on the east and west side of the mall respectively.

Shopping at the Mall

There are over 500 stores in the Mall of America on three different levels. They have a little of something for everyone including clothes, electronics, jewelry, Wisconsin cheese, and more. They also have a two-story American Girl store. One benefit of shopping at the Mall of America is that Minnesota does not charge any sales tax on clothing purchases.

Sea Life Aquarium Under the Mall of America

The Sea Life Aquarium has over 10,000 different creatures from the sea including sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, sea turtles, seahorses, and more. The aquarium is a little on the expensive side for a family, but still worth a visit. The jellyfish exhibit is amazing as they project different colors of light into the display causing the jellyfish to appear very colorful. The shark exhibit is also amazing. You literally walk underneath the aquarium and sharks can swim above your head. It was really cool to be that close to the sharks. The aquarium has different birthday party packages as well as behind the scene tours and an opportunity to spend the night in either the aquarium tunnel or the gallery area.

Pepsi Orange Streak—My Favorite Ride at the MOA

Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America

Nickelodeon Universe is a seven-acre indoor amusement park in the center of the mall. It has rides for kids of all ages. They have planted a bunch of trees throughout the park, which helps to make it feel like you are at an outdoor park. At night, they use street level lighting to make it seem even more like you are outdoors. If you plan on riding on a lot of rides, it is a good idea to buy the unlimited ride wristband because it can become costly fast. Nickelodeon Universe also offers a chance to meet Nickelodeon characters that include Sponge Bob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more. We spent a good part of a day riding the rides and loved every minute of it.

Lego Store at the Mall

The Lego Store is a major attraction because of the amazing display of the huge models that they have above the store. Currently, they feature a robot that is over 30-feet tall and is easily seen from just about anywhere in the amusement park. The store offers Legos in just about any color imaginable and a ton of different Lego sets. Also, outside of the store is an area where kids can go and play with Legos for free.

Moose Mountain Adventure Golf

Moose Mountain Adventure Golf is a challenging 18-hole mini golf course that looks like it is set back in time. They have a small steam engine, full size moose, a logging truck and more. The course is located on the outer edge of the amusement park by one of the food courts.

Bowling at the Mall

The Sky Deck Sports Grille and Lanes is located on the fourth floor. All of their lanes are lit by black light. They also have an arcade, pool tables, food, and big screen TVs. It looked like a cool place when we walked by, but we did not have a chance to try it out.

Restaurants in the Mall of America

The Mall of America offers many different kinds of food options from fast food to sit down to fine dining. There is something for everyone’s tastes. There are two food courts in the mall that have many different options. There are also food vendors inside of the Nickelodeon Universe Amusement Park. We ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, which was a little pricey, but the food was very good as well as the service.

Walking at the Mall

The Mall of America is an excellent place to exercise by walking through it. Each level is just shy of six-tenths of a mile in length. With three floors to choose from, you will have plenty of room to walk in. My advice is to come early in the day before the mall gets busy if you want to walk.

Theatres at the Mall of America

After a hard day of shopping, sit back, relax, and enjoy a movie. Some of the seats in each theater have D-Box Motion technology, which gives a full range of motion to those seats. The Mall of America Theater is the only one in the Midwest to offer such technology. They also have a VIP Theater for guests 21 and over that come with full service concessions.

Special Events

The Mall of America is home to many different special events. During the Christmas season, Santa comes for a visit and stays from the middle of November through Christmas Eve. The mall also hosts the HGTV Holiday House in one of its courts. It is a chance to meet your favorite HGTV stars as well as attend daily demonstrations. Throughout the year, the mall plays host to over 400 different events.

The Mall of America is huge. Plan on taking a couple of days to get through the whole mall so that you can enjoy the experience rather than feel rushed. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a camera. Take your time and enjoy the unique atmosphere that the mall has to offer. We really enjoyed the time that we spent there and cannot wait to go back again.

Have you ever been to the Mall of America before?

I also have no idea how huge this mall is! It seems to offer a whole lot more than just restaurants and shops. Can be really fun to stay the whole day there especially when you have lots of money to try out almost all of the establishments and shops there. :)

Wow!! I had no idea just how big the Mall of America was. This was a great hub...very informative and not a bad travel brochure for the Mall itself. I will definitely put this place on my list. Thanks for the info...voted this hub up.
