"Time Travel" in Texas
There are many historical places to take the kids in and around Austin that won't make it feel like they are in school. They'll love being able to see and touch the history as if they were there.
Just north of Austin you'll find Inner Space Caverns in the town of Georgetown. Discovered in 1963 by the Texas Highway Department, the caverns are believed to be 90-100 million years old but were sealed off from the world around 14,000 years ago until that fateful day in 1963 when it became known to the public.
Dinosaur tracks can be found in Hartman Prehistoric Gardenat Zilker Park.
Wagon Wheel Tracks from original settlers in Round Rock, Texas.
The Alamo is a piece of history every child should see firsthand and the adults won't mind it either.
Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg was named by the Tonkawa Indians that believed a Spanish conquistador cast a spell on it. Legend has it magical ghost fires can be seen glowing at the top.
The Capitol of Texas
Another place to visit for a little Texas history is the Capitol.
The kids will enjoy this massive structure as they walk through it looking at up the huge dome ceiling.
Guided tours are available Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm, Saturday 9:30am - 3:30pm and Sunday from noon until 3:30pm though the Capital is available to visit every day of the year except most major holidays.
While in the area check out The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and their iMax Theatre.

If you want to bring the petting zoo to you then you might consider El Rancho.

Time for Pizza
You can add pizza to anything to make it a good time but with go-carts, bumper boats, laser tag, rock climbing walls, put-put golf and more arcade games than they'll ever know what to do with; there will be plenty to keep them entertained in between bites.
You'll find all this and more at Austin Park and Pizza.
Main Event boasts just as much fun and there's more than pizza on the menu. You'll also find bowling here, a huge rock climbing room, glow in the dark laser tag and put-put golf.
K1 Speed is indoor go-kart fun as it's fastest while you enjoy the lounge above the track. The track works with local restaurants to ensure your meal needs are met.
