8 Ways to Have the Best Girls' Weekend in Cape May, NJ
Girls' Getaway
I took a trip to Cape May with 10 other girls for my best friend's bachelorette party, and we had the best time! Our goal was to have a relaxing weekend, as we were more interested in having a fun night at the Airbnb with drinks and our own music than going out to the bars.
In my opinion, I think this is the best way to have fun with your friends. You can have genuine conversations with each other, have great laughs, be comfy, and not have to worry about the driving situation for the night. Here are eight ways to have fun with your girlfriends on a getaway to Cape May.
1. Stay in Cape May Point
If you want to be away from the crowds in downtown Cape May, this is where you will want to book. We were lucky enough to be staying at a house on Seagrove Avenue, where we had access to the private beach close by.
Cape May Point not only offers Airbnbs but also has some great sites that are worth visiting!
Lake Lily
This spot is great to visit during a stroll, jog, or even on your way to the beach. Beautiful flowers were in bloom when I went, and I was able to watch a group of swans wander through the area.
Cape May Point State Park
If you really want to make the most out of this state park, I would recommend spending a few hours here. I only walked around for 20 minutes to see what I could, but I would have loved to partake in a long walk on the trails.
The trail split into two, with one side being more woods, while the other side had more of a marsh-like foliage to it. Looking at the map at the start of the trail, it seems that both trails meet at some point to form a circle.
2. Visit Beach Plum Farm
This farm has beautiful flowers and plants to admire all around. Upon arrival, you will find visitors sitting at picnic benches enjoying meals, snacks, or drinks that are sold at the farmhouse. The inside of the farmhouse can make any rustic barn-lover swoon with excitement. Even the restroom is cute!
For fun, you can do a little shopping or feed the chickens near the parking lot for a quarter.
3. Have a Beach Day
Here's what I recommend taking with you for a day at the beach in Cape May.
What to Bring
- Chairs and blankets
- Beach towels
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Floppy hat or baseball cap
- Umbrella for shade
- Speaker for music
- Drinks and koozies
- Lunch and snacks
- A cooler
- Beach passes or money for a beach pass
4. Do a Photo Shoot With Your Girls
Pick a theme for the weekend or just a day, and hire a professional photographer! Since all of the girls were born in the '90s, we chose a '90s theme for the weekend. We bought koozies that said "Sip me baby one more time" and t-shirts that went with the song "If You Wanna Be My Lover" by the Spice Girls.
The photo shoot was a great way to capture the bride's friendship with all of the girls. A photoshoot could also be a great icebreaker for bachelorettes if not everyone knows each other.
5. Explore Downtown Cape May
This area can get very crowded because it is the central point of Cape May. You can find shops that sell clothes, jewelry, books, sweets, home decor, and more. Washington Street seems to be the busiest as it is the most attractive part of Downtown. I was shocked to see big crowds when we drove by at 11:00 pm!
6. Gather Around a Bonfire
You can do this at night time or make a whole evening out of it! You can grill some food, have drinks, and make smores.
We had Oreos in the house, so I decided to have some fun and experiment. I roasted a marshmallow, twisted an Oreo to pull it apart, and sandwiched the marshmallow in between the two cookies. It was delicious!
7. Go Dolphin or Whale Watching
We went dolphin watching for two hours with Cape May Whale Watchers. It was a lovely and relaxing boat ride, and as someone who gets very seasick, I was completely fine! The one aspect of this boat ride that I was a little disappointed by was that the dolphins didn't come up close to the boat. You could only see them from a distance, but I could see people on smaller boats in the water who were able to get close to them.
Whale watching could definitely be an amazing experience. However, don't get your hopes up if you choose to do this tour. Whale sightings can be rare on this tour, but Cape May Whale Watchers have a marine life sighting guarantee with their tickets. If you see a dolphin on this boat ride, which you most likely will, the company has fulfilled its promise.
8. Treat Yourself to Some Meals
The following places are restaurants we ate at that I would recommend:
- The Pier House
- The Blue Pig in Congress Hall
- Peter Shields Inn
- Dock Mike's Pancake House
Other Activities That May Be of Interest
- Jersey Shore Alpacas
- The Southern Mansion
- Cape May-Lewes Ferry
- Lewes Delaware
- Cape May Carriage Company
- Nature Center of Cape May
- Bike tour with Curious Cape May
- Cape May Trolley Tour
- Historic District of Cape May
