I live in Houston and love writing reviews of the local restaurants and stores I visit with family and friends.
Approaching Silver Street Studios
Fun and quirky murals painted on the exterior building of Silver Street Studios, as well as other buildings in the area, bring added attention to this part of our city. Houston is filled to the brim with artist studios in repurposed old structures.
The mural at the top of this page has the following signage: #royalmcgee and @treesmcgee.
Driving along Sawyer street while looking for Winter street, there is a sculpture out front with the letters spelling ART that is easily spotted. Viewed from differing angles, it has the names of many famous artists listed at the base of the sculpture.
Janavi M. Folmsbee
Across the street is a colorful mural portrayed along the 5000 square foot side of an old Union Pacific Railroad building. The mural title is "Rail to the Sea," which is painted by Janavi M. Folmsbee. Below are the images I captured, showing a portion of the massive mural from both ends.
Location of Silver Street Studios
Turning onto Winter Street from Sawyer, drive alongside the railroad tracks passing the building to the front. There is a parking lot behind, which is where you will find Silver Street Studios. Many different murals are painted alongside the exterior of the building. Artist studios are inside.
The address is 2000 Edwards Street, Houston, Texas 77007.

Have you ever wished to be a fly on the wall? Would you like to secretly watch or overhear someone or view something while staying anonymous? Perhaps that is what the artist thought who created the flies on the exterior walls at Silver Street Studios.

Very colorful and stylized snakes are in this particular mural shown below. "We Are Water" is the name under the snake on the right. Perhaps this is his representation of water moccasins?
Cecil's Pub in another part of our city has one entire side of the building embellished with art by Daniel Anguilu. Many of the same artists featured here also have worked at that site among numerous other places. It is a graffiti art paradise of sorts in many areas of our city!

This Art Wall at the Silver Street Studios has its hashtag. It is #ArtWallHou. The grand opening reception was September 23rd of 2016. People to this day are still discovering these impressive murals and becoming acquainted with the artists who work inside of this 20,000 square foot building.
The loading door was open when I snapped the photo taken of the mural by Luisa Duarte.

Silver Street Studios is open Monday to Saturday, from 9 AM to 5 PM. Every 2nd Saturday, from 2 to 7 PM, the artists make a special effort to be there during those hours. It is a great way to meet the different artists and view the various types of work they create. You can purchase what they create. Food trucks are on-site, and there are live music and cocktails, so it can be a monthly destination point for art lovers who wish to have a bit of fun.
In this same part of town with Silver Street Studios is Winter Street Studios, Summer Street Studios, and the Silos on Sawyer. All of these art studios are a part of the Washington Avenue Arts District in Houston.
It would take some time to go through all of the more than 250 artist studios! So wear comfortable shoes and start exploring this delightful area each month if you like art.
