It is already summer in India: Time to take a vacation for yourself and your kids to beat the heat. I am sure you would have already considered few options such as Goa, Ooty, Kodaikanal and other places. I am from the beautiful state of Karnataka, and have explored quite a few beautiful places here. Hence, I am presenting to you five places you can visit in Karnataka this summer.
When someone talks about Karnataka, the first place that comes to mind is probably Coorg. Coorg is the home for some of the best coffee, tea, pepper and other spices that are produced and exported from India. Coorg (or Kodagu in local language) is extremely picturesque and is stunning enough to captivate anyone’s mind. It is also one of the best places in Karnataka if you plan to go on a hike. Madikeri, the headquarters of Coorg, is also sometimes called Scotland of India. The home stays are the best places to stay where you can enjoy the beautiful coffee and tea estates.
Want to hit the beach during summer and wondering where to go? Look no further than Gokarna. If you are a foreigner and you love to explore religious places and then spend some time on the beach, this will be a treat for your eyes. Gokarna is a holy place for Indians which has a mythological significance. It is located just an hour south from Goa. It has a Mahabaleshwar temple situated on the beach. The temple used to be off limits to non-Hindus, but with changing times, it may be available for special visits. You can certainly relax at the beautiful beach nonetheless.
3) Nagarahole National Park
The Nagarahole national park is another place to visit in Karnataka during summer. It is one of the top national parks in India. It forms a beautiful natural habitat for elephants. The park is a forest with unspoilt wilderness, tranquil lake and bubbling streams. It has a palace where you can see herds of elephants. Nagarahole can be explored by elephant back, jeep or boat. You can also go trekking if you are up for some action.
Want to do some nature camping and fishing? The Bheemeshwari Fishing and Nature Camp (also known as Cauvery fishing camp) is the apt place for that. Nestled along the Cauvery River, the most sacred river of South India, Bheemeshwari nature camp is home to the world renowned “Mahseer” which is one of the largest sport and fresh water fish. The nature camp invites both adventure and nature lovers equally. Some of the activities you can do here include fishing, coracle riding, rafting and trekking in the forest.
Kemmanagundi is a hill station situated in Tarikere taluk of Chikmagalur district. The hill station is ringed by the Baba Budan Giri hill range. It also has mountain streams, lush vegetation and ornamental gardens. You can have a spectacular view of the sunset from the Raj Bhavan. Kemmanagundi was the summer retreat of King Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. As a mark of respect to him, it is also called Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station.
These are only some of the popular places you can visit in Karnataka during summer. Do feel free to add some more places you have visited or would like to visit during summer.
Questions & Answers
Question: I am planning a trip from April 18th to April 21st. Is it fine to travel to Karnataka?
Answer: Yes. Since it is really hot at this time, it is better to visit relatively cooler places such as Chickamagalur and the Western Ghats belt.

You can visit Sringeri or Shimoga. Shimoga has the famous Jog Falls. They are also kind of central to all the small and big waterfalls in Karnataka. Since they are also part of the Western Ghats, the climate is quite pleasant here.
