Pilot's First Time Flying with Her United Airlines Mom Is a Tear-Jerker Moment
Considering that only about 5% of all commercial pilots in the United States are women, it's always cool to see ladies following each other into the field. It's even more inspiring, however, when it's family following family into aviation.
On their official TikTok page, @united documented a very special flight helmed by a team of two women pilots. These weren't just any women, however- they were a mother-daughter team!
This is breathtaking. Aviation isn't an easy career, but it's an intrepid, inspiring one, especially for children who are introduced to it at an early age. For young Brooke Patterson-Van Howe, all she could see growing up was how amazing her mom's career was and how she too, wanted to follow her mother's footsteps into the skies.
Taking her first flying lesson clinched it, and from then on, Brooke was determined to fly with her mother someday. Seeing her finally achieve that dream, and getting to take to the skies by her mother's side as co-pilots, well... I won't pretend I didn't get choked up. This is a Mother's Day story for the ages!
Viewers on TikTok were also incredibly moved by the amazing mother-daughter team. "To not only see one female pilot but two, and a mother & daughter is incredible to see," @tiffaway marveled.
Another viewer pointed out the significance of this mother/daughter pilot team-up, through the eyes of a little girl shown in the audience towards the end: "The little girl waving and getting to see not one but two pilots who are women... you're both role models."
It's true- it's hard not to feel inspired seeing these two generations of women pilots standing side by side. Whether flying together or apart, we hope they both continue to inspire generations of future pilots for years to come!
