Tour of Typical Crew Member Cabin on a Cruise Ship Is Better Than Expected

Working aboard a cruise ship can be a great way to see the world while making money, but it's not an easy gig. Staff work long hours, deal with all kinds of stressful situations at sea, and of course, contend with tiny cabins for months at a time. But not all crew cabins are built the same...

Cruise-life vlogger @bryanjamescruises posts daily vlogs about life as a cruise ship performer. In this vlog, he checks out a typical crew cabin. How does it compare to his own? Let's see...

We've got to say, compared to some crew cabins we've seen, that's actually better than we expected! To be fair, we may be a bit biased- Bryan has previously shown his own single-person crew cabin, which is hardly bigger than a walk-in closet. As a performer who rotates between ships fairly frequently, his accomodations sometimes vary from what the average crew member has. Now granted, these two crew members have to share a bunk bed, but at the very least they have ample room to fit all their things and stretch their legs- definitely a far cry from Bryan's current tiny cabin! Ultimately, the two-person crew cabin is a step above what we anticipated... but could we hold out in there for six months? That, we're not so sure...

For some people, living in close quarters like these would be a dealbreaker. "Well this just changed my mind about getting a job on a cruise ship. 2 in that small space. No way," decided @philr11. "Jeez, I had a double bunk all to myself for a week and that gave me panic attacks. This is too cramped," @floridaswampthingarden was horrified.

However, those with work experience at sea had the opposite reaction- they found the cabin quite roomy! "9 years on Navy ships, I'd have killed for a space like this," mused @flipper1701aa. Viewer @bakebritish has had worse: "I've shared a cabin 1/3 the szie of that double!" "I work in the Navy. I'd love either the tiny one or the bunk beds," wished @newoutlooks22.

It's all a matter of perspective. To us landlubbers, these rooms may looked cramped, but for many who live and work at sea, a cabin like this is a spacious steal! It definitely hasn't discouraged people like Bryan and these two crew members from living out their cruise ship dreams. Could you handle the cruise crew life?
