Man Tracking Location of Taylor Swift's Private Jets Has Attorneys Threatening Legal Action

He's been documenting her every move for a long time now.

Taylor Swift's usage of private jets has been a topic of conversation for a long time now. For years, the Midnights singer has used her jet to get from place to place, whether that's during her wildly popular Eras tour or making sure she doesn't miss any of boyfriend Travis Kelce's games when he plays with the Kansas City Chiefs. How often she flies has become controversial, though; considering the impact that flying private can have on climate change, it's understandable that some people are concerned.

But the reason that so many people know where her jet flies and when is because that information is public knowledge... and the person who's been making that information easy for others to access is dealing with the legal consequences.

As the official Daily Mail TikTok account shared on Tuesday, February 6, Taylor Swift's attorneys have sent a cease and desist letter to a 21-year-old man named Jack Sweeney who has been tracking her jet's location and sharing it online. Swift's flight path isn't the only one he tracks, but that's the one that has landed him in trouble.

Sweeney was behind an account on X (formerly known as Twitter) called @taylorswiftjets, which has since been suspended. According to ABC News, in December, Swift's legal team sent the letter, which claimed that the account was a threat to her safety, especially since she's had to deal with so many stalkers and trespassers in the past.

"Because the Offending Accounts share 'live' updates on her destination and the exact time our Client will arrive at a given location, you essentially provide individuals intent on physically harming her, or with nefarious or violent intentions, a roadmap to carry out their plans," the letter said.

The letter went on to say that because of the tracking account, Swift was forced to "live her life in a constant state of fear for her personal safety."

Who is Jack Sweeney?

Sweeney is a student at University of Central Florida, and he tracks the private jets of several high profile people, including Elon Musk. While talking to NBC News, he insisted that he only uses public data from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“I think it’s important to note that nowhere do I intend for harm. I simply share the facts,” he said. “I actually think Swift has some good songs.”

His attorney, James Slater, maintains that Sweeney has done nothing wrong. “In the letters, they accused my client of stalking Ms. Swift. Stalking? He’s not following her; he’s not a paparazzo scoping her outside a nightclub. He’s on a computer tracking publicly accessible information," Slater said.
