Southwest Airlines Partners with Charities To Conduct Emergency Airlift of Shelter Animals in Maui

They saved 136 dogs and cats.

It has been heartbreaking to see the way the situation in Maui has been unfolding after wildfires in Lahaina left more than 100 people dead, and even more homeless. But of course, it's not just people who are affected by this tragedy — all of their pets are also displaced, too, along with any animals who were living in shelters at the time.

But Southwest Airlines is working to help those animals, and this video the company shared about their efforts on TikTok on Monday, August 21 is truly touching.

Along with footage of Southwest Airlines employees — everyone from crew members to the pilots — we can see shelter cats and dogs being rescued from Maui, Hawaii as the airline partnered with different animal rescues to make sure that they all had a safe place to go.

According to the video, they were able to help emergency airlift 136 dogs and cats to Portland, Oregon

"This transport makes room for the influx of injured or displaced pets that have arrived because of the wildfires. Once on the mainland, these shelter dogs and cats will be safely able to find their 'fur-ever' homes," said the video. "We filled the plane with emergency pet supplies and hundreds of humanitarian 'good packs' which contained survival and comfort supplies."

It's absolutely devastating to think about what's going on in Maui right now, so seeing this great thing that's being done to help is truly amazing.

There's no doubt that so many animals have been saved by these efforts — and hopefully, they'll all find their homes soon!
