Avid Camper Shares Her Tips for Safe Solo Camping
If you're someone who can't get enough of the great outdoors, a solo camping trip can be an awesome way to relax and get a little quality time alone with yourself. However, safety does become more of a concern when you're camping alone versus camping with a group.
So what are the best ways to balance safety while staying comfy and having fun on a solo trip? Avid camper @outdoorbago shared her great go-to tips for safe solo camping!
We've got a real treasure trove of wisdom here! Some of the tips she shares are pretty intuitive: camping somewhere you're familiar with, setting up camp before dark, and carrying personal protection like bear spray and an emergency whistle. However, some of the things she suggests aren't ones we would have thought of ourselves. For example, she suggests setting up multiple seats at the campfire even though you're alone- if anyone sees your camp, they'll assume there are others with you. She also suggest using carabiners to lock together zippers, making it harder for someone to open the tent from the outside. Genius!
Other experienced campers shared their go-to solo tips. "Reserve the spot next to or across from the park host. They're usually old retired couples," said @smrhz. "Tip- a bear bell on the zipper carabiner so you can hear if someone starts to fiddle," @spectralwander added.
Overall, though, people were simply impressed by @outdoorbago's catalog of camping tips. "The carabiner lock is SUCH a good idea omg," praised @sunbirdsoul. "As someone who camps exclusively alone, this is amazing advice! Great job!" @madeleinewilsonphoto applauded.
Camping solo can be daunting, especially if it's your first time. With awesome safety tips like these, though, you can protect yourself and feel more comfortable camping as a party of one!
