'Unusual' New Cruise Ship Concept Brings the Past to the Present

This is a far cry from the new mega ships!

Personally, I am a big fan of big, flashy cruise ships with all the latest technology. After taking a trip on Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean's newest ship (which has been dubbed the largest cruise ship in the world), I was totally sold — I had a blast, and didn't even manage to do everything on the ship that I wanted to do in one sailing. Since I'm typically wrangling a small child on my vacations, my philosophy has always been the more easy food and entertainment options, the better.

But I can also see why big ships like this can be a turnoff to some cruisers, especially those who are really looking forward to taking to the sea and want a more authentic experience. It's hard to find that on modern cruise ships, but this one will have you singing sea shanties in no time.

The cruise ship featured in this TikTok video from @thepointsguy might look like it set sail many, many years ago, but it's actually brand new — and it's designed to give cruisers more sailing vibes than they'd get from the larger ships that tend to feel more like shopping malls.

Sure, it's a bit smaller than other ships we see on the ocean these days, but it does look a lot cooler! It has actual sails (which are set by hand, by the way) and only carries 136 passengers, so it does have a more intimate feel. But as we can see in this video from an 11-day sailing to Costa Rica, it also has all of the modern amenities and comforts that you'd want on a ship.

We're talking full sized bath tubs, an upscale restaurant (with fresh caught seafood on the menu), and even a spa.

Anyone else ready to plan their next seafaring experience?

Vacationing on the Sea Cloud Spirit

If you're interested in trying out this ship after watching the video, you, too, can book your own voyage. Technically, the Sea Cloud Spirit is actually a yacht, so just keep in mind that the price tag is a bit hefty — we're talking at least $3,000 per person and up, with prices varying depending on where you're sailing and when. (And fortunately, all meals are included in that cost.)

For that price, though, you will get an unforgettable experience in exchange. On board, you'll find bars and lounges, a restaurant and bistro, library, and a gym, along with the small spa.

Plus, the cabins are much larger than your typical stateroom and much more luxurious.

If you love sailing and have the money to splurge, this might be the way to go. You can even sail around France...
