Tour of Beautiful Old Sicilian Palazzo Reveals Its Incredible History
Any well-built property can be "attractive," but to be truly beautiful, a property must have a distinctive character as well. So many beautiful properties have an intriguing, distinct history behind them that really elevates them into something special, and vice versa.
Take, for example, the incredible Sicilian palazzo recently bought by TikTok vlogger and baker @sweetnpfeffer. A gorgeous, magnificently-designed, 600 square meter building, this palazzo also comes with a storied history.
Though Palazzo Branca was technically built in 1850, the original building it sits on top of was built sometime in the 1700's. That means the original foundations of this structure may date as far back as the founding of America- or even longer. That really puts into perspective how resilient this palazzo has been over the years. Even though it's a little run down and in need of renovations, its timeless beauty very obviously shines through the dust.
As long-lasting as this palazzo has been, though, it's had a few brushes with doom. The closest one came in 1943 when a bomb fell straight through the ceiling of the master bedroom. Had a detonation been triggered, that would have spelled the end for this palazzo, as well as most likely for anyone living inside. Nevertheless, the bomb did not detonate, and the palazzo stood strong to see another day- albeit with a damaged roof.
From humble beginnings well over a century and a half ago to almost meeting its "demise" in World War II, this palazzo has been through a lot. Even though it's kind of roughed-up and showing it's age at the moment, its beautiful character shines through with stunning features such as its intricate Liberty-style painting and its beautiful tile work.
While @sweetnpfeffer is planning on renovating the property to make apartments, she seems to want to preserve as much of Palazzo Branca's original appearance and design as possible. And who can blame her? With a rich history dating back hundreds of years, and timeless craftsmanship that's survived in the face of said tumultuous history, this old Sicilian palazzo is the essence of classic beauty!
