Woman’s Joke About Being the One Remote Worker on Vacation Seriously Rings True

This is right on the money!

In most respects, being a remote worker is the bee's knees. You don't have to worry about long commutes, you can control your work environment to make it more relaxing and efficient, and as long as you can still log in and do your work duties, you can work from pretty much anywhere you want to.

That being said, that last point can become a bit of a double-edged sword when it's time to go on vacation. On October 9, TikTok user Lizzy Ruth humorously documented exactly what it's like being the only remote worker on a friends' vacation. She totally hit the nail on the head with this!

Ouch... this is a struggle I can personally relate too. Sure, I might not have been lipsyncing to Hamilton as @lizzyruth and her travel buddies are doing here, but the spirit of the experience rings true. Nothing says "girls' trip" like logging on at 4 am local time to keep up with work!

Complaints aside, this really isn't the worst scenario ever. At the end of the day, you don't have to stress about not having vacation days saved up, and you're still making money while on vacation (which goes a long way when visiting expensive travel destinations). Still, it's a lot of responsibility to carry, and can be a bummer when you're the only one on your rowdy friends' trip who's not totally cutting loose!

"Lmao I did this while I was in Vegas. Had to be up at 5 am for the time difference. It was lowkey peaceful tho," commenter @toyhenoctus chimed in.

Some friend groups even came up with pet names for their own remote workaholics! "My friends call that “gremlin-ing” because one of us would always be working at the desk in a hoodie in the dark while the rest slept," @dannadoesindy related. LMAO, I love it (and will be incorporating "gremlining" into my own vocabulary).

Even if it's not the most glamorous nickname, there's no shame in being a "gremlin." Despite vacation awkwardness and sleep schedule issues from time zone shift, at the end of it all, remote work is still far more lenient and liberating than clocking into an in-person job. Still, if you have vacation days saved up, don't be shy about using them!
