Woman Has the Most Epic Passport Fail the Night Before an International Flight

This is a literal worst nightmare!

The night before an international trip is always tense. Personally, I've never been able to sleep more than a couple hours at most on those nights. No matter how many times I check my luggage and make sure all my paperwork is in order, I'm always nervous I'll have forgotten that one little thing and something will go disastrously wrong, ruining the trip.

As stressful as these nights have been for me, though, I've never had one as nightmarish as this scenario captured in this TikTok from November 28. Mackenzie, a frequent international traveler, made a cringeworthy mistake with her passport the night before her international flight that put her trip in jeopardy!

OMG... this one made me audibly gasp. Poor Mackenzie (aka @girlgoingtravel) made the absolutely brutal mistake of putting her passport through a full wash and dry cycle, and it came out the other end in rough shape. Unless she was lucky enough to be in a city with a passport center, there's no way she could get that replaced overnight!

But was the passport in bad enough shape to keep her off of her international flight? At first glance, it seemed like the answer would be a resounding "Yes." I mean... just look at that thing. However, other international travelers who'd suffered through similar passport mishaps were a bit more optimistic.

"I accidentally did that to mine too! Right before a flight, but I fixed it overnight," sympathized commenter @larsonellen.

"Whole water bottle leaked on mine 3 weeks into a 3 month trip around Europe. Ended up being fine though, they weren’t as strict as i thought!!" related @kasenation.

So what happened in Mackenzie's case? Did she get make it on the plane after all, or was she stopped at her gate? Well, in a follow-up video, Mackenzie had good news. She was still able to make her trip with her waterlogged passport- but explained that she got very lucky: "There's a little chip inside of them... it's an electronic chip that reads information about you or whatever, and basically if that gets damaged, apparently that's the real problem, and if your picture page is damaged, that's the second real problem."

Fortunately, she dodged both of these bullets, and by letting her passport air dry and flattening it out with two heavy books, it was in acceptable condition by the next day. Not everybody will be as lucky as Mackenzie though, so please: if you're about to fly out of the country, make sure you know where your passport is before you run that final load of laundry!
