Italian Airbnb With a One-Way Mirror Window Leads to Some Serious Comedy Gold

It's honestly really cute!

One of the weird, if understandable, neuroses many people have about staying in Airbnbs is the fear of being watched. Many vigilant Airbnb guests make it a point to scour their accomodations for hidden cameras, one-way mirrors, and any other devices their hosts might be using to spy on them- just in case.

But what if it was the other way around- what if you, the guest, could spy on someone else from your Airbnb? Two best friends found out together in the best way possible on a trip to Italy. Their Airbnb had a one-way mirror window facing the street outside, and it led to some serious comedy gold!

LMAO! See, if you're gonna put a one-way mirror in an Airbnb, this is how you do it. This setup made for the perfect people-watching experience, and best friends Sydo and Maria (posting under @syd_and_maria on TikTok) had an amazing time with it.

In a different video they revealed that this dreamy Airbnb was in Cinque Terre, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy. With a streetfront view in such a popular area, there was no shortage of tourists who stopped by and used their "mirror" to take vacation selfies, putting on cheesy grins and poses or licking their ice cream cones in the warm coastal sun. It was a win/win situation: the unsuspecting tourists got to take great vacation pics, and Sydo and Maria got some free entertainment out of it!

The best friends' video has gone viral since it was uploaded on November 14, with millions of other viewers laughing along. Despite the slightly surreptitious nature of the window (the tourists didn't know they were being watched, after all), people thought their video was sweet.

"This is somehow so wholesome to watch... just people doing people things," admired @ane.stezija.

"How beautiful it is to know that even if they can't see you in the pictures you are now a part of their memories on their trips," @faerielandxo mused.

What a wonderful sentiment! The video is good, silly fun on its surface, but there's also a really touching undercurrent to it; to know that these girls were secretly part of someone else's happy vacation memories. And who knows- maybe these tourists will even see this video and spot themselves, bringing it full circle!

So if you're ever walking through a street somewhere in Cinque Terre and see a mirror on the side of a house, just remember that somebody might be looking back at you on the other side. Don't forget to say cheese!
