Woman Reveals the Brutal Reality of What It's Like 'Living the Dream' Off the Grid
If you're anything like me, there's a very good chance that you've left work after a particularly stressful day and dreamed about living off of the grid. Moving to some remote forest, away from the demands of modern life (and social media). Enjoying nature, all that peace and quiet, and not being able to be reached by anyone.
But like many daydreams, this one, apparently, isn't quite what it's cut out to be — just ask a woman who's been living it. On TikTok, @cassie.lyons shared the story of how she moved to Joshua Tree in California to live off the grid... and the reality of what it's really been like.
She bought two and a half acres in Joshua Tree, where she put her "off-grid cabin" which forces her to rely on solar power and to haul in her own water, since she can't exactly get utilities hooked up out there. She uses an outhouse to go to the bathroom, and learned quickly that anything that wasn't strapped to the ground would get stolen by the people who frequently ride through on their four wheelers, so she got to work constructing a fence around her property.
Her happiness there was short lived, though, because life was hard. Strong winds were constantly knocking down her pergola (and anything on it), and despite the beautiful sunsets and peaceful surroundings, she found herself experiencing the stress she was trying to get away from.
It just goes to show that, no matter how you live, the stress will follow you... it'll just be a different kind of stress.
Maybe we should plan a vacation to Joshua Tree instead? And stay at a place with indoor plumbing.
