Big News About the 'Mirage' in Las Vegas Marks the End of an Era

For many years, the Mirage casino resort has stood as one of the most popular and iconic resorts in all of Las Vegas. Once known for hosting the Siegfried and Roy magic show and its iconic artificial volcano which erupts nightly, it's long been a staple of Sin City. But all good things must come to an end...

TikTok user and Vegas local @lasvegasblogger revealed a big new change that is coming to the Mirage. This move is certain to ruffle some feathers...

As the video says, it's the end of an era for this Las Vegas icon. Hard Rock International has bought out the Mirage from MGM, and will be converting it into one of their resorts. Among the changes coming to the Mirage, perhaps the biggest is that the iconic volcano will finally be extinguished, with plans to demolish it and replace it with a new guitar-shaped tower. No way they could work the old volcano into the design, huh?

Vegas locals and visitors alike were largely sentimental at best and angry at worst. "I swam with the dolphins at Mirage over Labor Day weekend, I hope they keep the dolphin encounters," hoped @ryokouchan. "Oh man that was the first hotel I went to in Vegas when I was a kid!" @budababe21 reminisced.

"Makes no sense! Hard Rock already had a hotel that slumped or is slowly dying! So they're killing a historic monument just to take it over?" said @yt_winstonbuzon angrily. "Not good… why??? Don’t need a Hard Rock. The Mirage is one of the oldest and still beautiful and always great to go," mourned @ritavigil2.

At the end of the day, no matter how iconic the original Mirage resort was, business takes precedence above all else. "The man with the gold makes the rules," mused @controlledspeed68. It's business, and if a place isn't turning a profit, it doesn't matter how iconic the structure is- it's on to the next thing.  The Mirage will be officially taken over on December 19th, so if you want to check out the resort and its iconic volcano one last time before the big change, now's your chance!
