Perfect Mid-Century Home Near Portland, Oregon Is a Step Back Through Time

The angles are so groovy!

If you're like me (and let's face it, millions of other people) you're probably sick of the boring, tired minimalist interior design trend that's taken over during the past decade.  Enough of the blah greys and beiges, the generic word art, that cheap grey faux-wood paneling that gets slapped over every floor in sight- we want warm colors and funky shapes again!

The growing backlash against minimalism might explain why retro mid-century homes are coming back in style- and boy, are they a welcome change, even if it means going back in time. This perfectly-preserved 1954 home near Portland, Oregon is a prime example- and according to this October 14 TikTok from realtor Kyle Huckabee, it's back on the market!

Now that's a step back through time! According to Pacific Northwest realtor Kyle Huckabee (@mthoodliving on TikTok), this stunning mid-century home was designed and built in 1954 by architect Ralph Olson as his personal residence. So far, Olson has been the only owner the house has ever had, but now it's out on the real estate market, looking for its next owner.

You can tell that this home was a passion project, because an artisan's care is visible in every aspect of its design. The three-bed, two and a half-bath house is oozing with mid-century charm and style around every corner. The warm wood, cork floor, stone fireplace, and large floor-to-ceiling windows make this place both totally retro and perfectly timeless. The home has two living areas, an original kitchen with vaulted ceilings, and an office area with a large tree standing just by the window.

What personally caught my eye, though, were all the interesting angular design around the home, especially on the outside. The upper deck from the patio looked almost chaotic in its linear structure, but in a kind of controlled chaos that developed interest without being too visually overstimulating. Mid-century style at its finest!

Online viewers were in awe of the love, care, and thought put into this house. "Wow. That thing has been loved on every day of its life. Fantastic," admired one TikTok viewer.

"Honestly, I feel sad. It's cliche to say, but they don't make homes like this anymore. New homes crumple in 2 years, while this beauty looks brand new, " reflected @trycatchthrow.

This home deserves another owner who will love it and preserve its unique style. If you're interested (and can swing the $1 million+ asking price), this beauty is on the market in West Linn, within a half-hour's drive of Portland, Oregon!
