Tour of Luxury ‘Micro-Studios’ in NYC Have Jaws Dropping Over the Price
If you're thinking about moving to New York City- Manhattan in particular- be ready to pay out the nose for a place in town. The pricey housing market in NYC needs very little introduction at this point as it's already infamously bad- to the point where even tiny studio apartments have started coming attached with the "luxury" descriptor.
Case in point: these luxury "micro-studios" in a new building opening up in Manhattan. This virtual tour from November 1 will give prospective tenants (and online gawkers) an idea of what to expect. While the apartments themselves are nice for what they are, the rent will probably make you balk!
Before we talk negatives, let's go over the good stuff and give these apartments their due. This building is on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, as luxury real estate agent @rentnewyork introduced. The LES is a popular and historic Manhattan neighborhood, bounded by culturally rich areas like Chinatown and Little Italy and connected to Williamsburg, Brookyln by the Williamsburg bridge. Great neighborhood- now let's step inside.
Again, I can't find too much fault with the apartment itself. It's small, but compared to the moldy, run-down glorified closets I've seen some realtors try to pass off as "studio apartments," this place is nice. The bathroom is decently large, there's lots of storage space worked into the design, and the Murphy Bed keeps the room from feeling too cramped in the daytime.
The tiny apartment isn't great for a big gathering, but the large lounges with expansive kitchens down the hall make up for it. The property comes with other attractive amenities, too: rooftop pool, BBQ terrace, laundry and fitness areas, and more. So... what's the catch?
Oh yeah- the price tag. That lofty New York rent is always a nasty wakeup call. These micro-studio apartments will cost their tenants just shy of four grand a month to rent. Suffice to say, the internet viewing crowds were... not impressed.
"Gotta love an adult dorm room starting at $4k a month," laughed TikTok viewer @suptiff0.
"I thought people were joking when I saw them comment 4K a month… seriously, just move to Jersey and buy a house," advised @reverend_miguel.
That "stay out of Manhattan" sentiment was echoed by other viewers as well. "Guys pls just live in Queens and Brooklyn. The rent in the city will never be worth it," begged @no1carestho22.
Yeah, that's the same moral I'm left with after most Manhattan apartment tours. If you're not making six figures a year, steer clear of Manhattan!
