London's Stunning New Year's Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II Is Breathtaking
Nearly four months after Queen Elizabeth died following 70 years of reign, the United Kingdom — and the world in general — is still mourning the loss of such an important monarch. After 96 years of life, the late Queen had become an institution worldwide, even becoming an iconic figure in American in her own right. It's hard to believe that we're going into the first year of many of our lifetimes without her as the Queen!
And to pay tribute to her as the world ushered in 2023, London truly went all out. Thanks to this TikTok video from @anthonylikesguyss, we can see how the city's New Years Eve fireworks incorporated the former monarch's memory into their display, and it's no wonder the OP said he cried the first time he saw this!
After a more upbeat portion of the show, things seemed to slow down for this part. As drones came together to create an image of the Imperial State Crown in the sky, dialogue from Elizabeth's coronation speech played, too: "I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service."
The show continued with fireworks that framed the London Eye, and Elizabeth's voice could be heard once again. "Even with the most deeply held differences, treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding."
The drones then made an image of Elizabeth's Royal Cypher (the "ER" initials you see in the sky), followed by more golden fireworks. For the grand finale, the drones created a silhouette of Elizabeth (similar to the one that has been used on coins in the UK) as we can hear, "Farewell, ma'am. And thank you for everything."
Such a tearjerking moment, but a great way to remember Elizabeth as we go into the first full year where she is no longer with us. After 70 years as Queen, she won't be forgotten.
