Disney Expert Reveals the One Mistake To Avoid When Leaving Magic Kingdom at Night

This will save a lot of time and stress.

When it comes to transportation, Disney World makes it pretty easy on its guests. Those who are staying at the resorts on site are able to take free bus transportation to and from all of the theme parks, and there are even more options at certain resorts, like the monorail, the Skyliner, or even a boat. But the one time that things tend to go a bit sideways is when the parks are closing and everyone's trying to leave and get back to their hotel at the same time.

As a frequent Disney visitor, I feel confident in saying that this is especially true at Magic Kingdom, especially on nights when the park closes right after the fireworks come to an end. It can take an hour or longer just to get back to your room, no matter where you happen to be staying. Lines for buses, boats, monorails, and even the ferry to get back to the parking lot can be so long, and it's not exactly ideal to wait in another long line after spending all day on your feet. However, there is a way to cut down on that waiting, as one Disney expert pointed out in a video shared on TikTok recently.

As @thewessicaway explained, people tend to make a mass exodus out of Magic Kingdom as soon as the fireworks come to an end, and this leads to transportation getting clogged up for a long time. So what should you do instead? It's easy: Don't leave right away.

Instead, make a beeline for any ride that you want to do. According to the OP (and my own experiences at the parks) Disney World's rule is that those who are in line when the park closes can stay in line and ride, no matter how long the wait may be, so you can get one more ride in and give people a chance to clear out in the process. It will also allow you to ride one of the headlining rides that typically has a long wait without wasting valuable park hours earlier in the day (not to mention it's a lot cooler in Orlando after the sun goes down).

This advice doesn't just apply to Magic Kingdom, either — this strategy works for all of the theme parks, though it is most useful here and at Epcot, which both have nightly entertainment going on right now.

I've also learned that it can be really nice to make a dining reservation that starts just as the fireworks are ending. I've had a lot of fun grabbing an appetizer and a glass of wine while watching everyone file out of the parks, and then having no issue hopping on an empty bus to get back to my resort.

It's a much better way to end your park day than waiting for transportation!
