Disney Gives Sneak Peek Into Upcoming 'Moana' Attraction at Epcot

While Epcot was originally designed with an experimental, futuristic concept in mind, a lot of what was once cutting-edge now feels dated. Times are changing, and over the past few years Disney has been renovating and making new additions to Epcot to freshen things up.

One upcoming addition families are sure to love is the new Moana-themed "Journey of Water" attraction, and TikTok Disney vlog @waltdisneyworldparks is spreading the news about it. An imagineer working on the attraction's construction talked about what future visitors can expect!

Interesting stuff! It sounds like the innovative water special effects are going to be the linchpin of this experience. The Journey of Water attraction will join existing attractions like Soarin' and The Seas with Nemo and Friends in Epcot's World Nature neighborhood, an area designed to foster a deeper appreciation for our natural world and encourage conservation efforts.

According to the Walt Disney World website, guests to Journey of Water will "Stroll along a self-guided outdoor trail where you can play and interact with water as it travels from the sky to the oceans and back again." It'll teach its young guests about the water cycle as they walk along a Polynesian island-themed maze, joined by the music and characters from the beloved film. Epcot is at its best when it combines education with fun!

But what do guests think about the attraction? Pretty much everybody was pleased to finally be getting a Moana-themed attraction at Disney World, but some had other critiques. "I appreciate their hard work. However, I feel like this should be a ride," said @_mrs.kasandrz. "It looks beautiful but I’m still trying to understand why this isn’t at Animal Kingdom. It makes not a bit of sense at EPCOT," critiqued @cmonkey50.

Despite statements like this, though, many people believed this attraction fits in well with the new direction Epcot is taking. "Maybe it’s just me, but I think this totally fits Epcot. Maybe not the old Epcot, but the one of today. Disney was never made to stay stagnant," @.starstuff rebutted.

While we think guests' critiques are valid, we're inclined to agree with this sentiment. Epcot is moving in a new direction, and we think Journey of Water seems well suited for that change. It'll be a great companion attraction to The Seas!

Journey of Water is set to open late in 2023. We can't wait for the big reveal!
