Icelandic Viking Restaurant Takes Guests on a Trip Back Through Time
While the Vikings were infamous for their brutal pillaging and raids on their victims, they never hesitated to celebrate their bloody conquests! Upon returning home, the conquering victors would toast their successes in large feasts full of wine, spirit, and song- and of course, lots of food.
The days of the Vikings may have long since past, but one restaurant is trying to resurrect their feasts. Not far inland from the southern shores of Iceland sits @ingolfsskali, a Scandinavian restaurant built in the style of a Viking longhouse.
Whether you're a big fan of Viking history or just think Thor is the best member of The Avengers, there's a lot to love about Ingólfsskáli's immersive dining experience. While not shying away from a few contemporary touches here and there, Ingólfsskáli does its best to thoroughly immerse its guests in the traditional Viking feast experience. Put away the glassware- you'll be drinking out of horns at this restaurant!
It's not just detailed in its decoration, though- the restaurant also highlights the best that Scandinavian cuisine has to offer with a delicious menu primarily sourced from local ingredients and based on Icelandic culinary traditions. Offerings from their menu include shellfish soup, salted cod and bacon, and pears poached in mulled wine. There are dishes to suit a wide variety of palates, even including vegan offerings. However, if you're feeling particularly brave, you can even try the infamous hákarl: urea-heavy fermented shark meat.
Still not feeling like a Viking? If you're not quite in the headspace after all that, don't worry. Ingólfsskáli lets its guests burn off a few calories with some after-dinner Viking activities. If they choose, for an extra fee guests can participate in axe-throwing and archery! If you weren't a Viking before this dinner, you will be by the time you're through!
And to top it all off, the restaurant is very well rated. It would be a shame if all of this passion and attention to detail didn't deliver, but it evidently does: Ingólfsskáli currently boasts 4.7 stars on Google and a cool 5 stars on TripAdvisor. After all that, I think it's time for me to start looking into some cheap flights to Iceland- I know I wanna get my Viking on at this place!
