Iowa State Fair's 'Husband Calling' Competition Is a Laugh Riot
Drawing in over a million visitors every year, the Iowa State Fair is one of the biggest and most beloved state fairs in the nation. Each year, the Iowa State Fair hosts dozens of competitions, but by far the most well-known is their Hog Calling Contest, where pig farmers pull out their best hog-calling squeals.
In the spirit of the Hog Calling Contest, the Iowa State Fair offers a few amusing parody competitions as well. TikTok user @_rhinstonecowboy shared some side-splitting footage of Iowa State Fair's Husband Calling Contest!
LOL! This had us tearing up from laughter. Wondering why their calls are so....intense? If so, you probably haven't seen the original hog calling contests they're parodying- but you can check one out here to get an idea. They go hard with their pig calls to try and win first prize. These ladies are hilariously mimicking the squeals and screeches of the classic pig farming competition- only replacing the pigs with their unfortunate partners!
And before you ask, there are competitions for the kiddos too. There's a youth division to the hog calling contest, but if they want to go the parody route, they can also go in for the Mom Calling Contest. Yep- not even the moms are safe!
As bewildering and old-fashioned as the contest was to some viewers, most couldn't help but laugh along at this crazy event. "This was NOT was I was expecting at 8am, but I am not mad about it! “The clock says DINNNGGGGG”," echoed @barbarajordan14. "I thought this was a poetry slam at first," said a bewildered @okayalrighttt. LOL!
"Yoo-hoo lady is my favorite. That’s how I communicate with my fiance and he responds hahahahaha," @iriescorpio could relate. One user, @dabgabgab, saw her destiny written in this video: "As an Iowan who is now married, I need to go participate in this competition and claim my spot in first place."
