Woman Gets a Weird Surprise After Water at Marriott Hotel Made Her ‘Itchy'

This shouldn't be happening!

Especially after the big pest scare in Paris this October, savvy hotel guests know to always be on the lookout for bed bugs. Nobody wants to endure the torture of waking up to dozens of itchy, painful bug bites, or bringing home an infestation that costs thousands to eliminate!

Even if you're vigilant about bed bugs, though, that sadly doesn't guarantee an itch-free hotel stay. Case in point- this recent Marriot guest, who complained in a November 6 TikTok that the water in her suite's bathroom had left her skin itchy and inflamed!

The irritated guest, @tayvibeshigher, had reportedly stayed at a Marriott hotel suite in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for a week. During that time, she consistently experienced unsettling symptoms every time she bathed, feeling extremely itchy every time she stepped out of the shower.

Then, on November 6, she made a disturbing discovery. Filling up her bathtub, she noticed that the water had a icky yellow-green hue. There was no way her symptoms were a coincidence- something was wrong with her water!

Taylor's stomach-turning surprise immediately piqued the interest of her TikTok followers, who were determined to get to the bottom of this. "Ewg.org/tapwater, you put in the zip code and it tells you how [polluted] the tap water is," one TikTok user shared.

Based on Taylor's claim that she was in Ft. Lauderdale (and not at a beachfront hotel, as she specified in the comments), I ran several of the possible zipcodes through that website. All zipcodes I tested had tap water with levels of contaminants exceeding EWG health guidelines (though specific contaminants weren't specified in the snapshots). But what specifically could have caused these symptoms?

Viewer @nickypastrami had a theory: "If I had to guess chlorine sounds right, and it looks like a lot." Even based on a glance, chlorine isn't a bad assumption. High levels of it are known to cause skin and eye irritation, and can also turn water a weird shade of green- just like the tub water shown in Taylor's video.

Armed with video evidence, Taylor confronted the hotel staff about this concerning situation. Luckily, they were on her side. "Hotel agreed that the water should not be this color! They said it can be slightly yellowed but not this!" she updated in the comments.

Chlorine can be a dangerous irritant at high levels. It's fortunate that Taylor didn't deal with symptoms any worse than skin irritation. Props to her followers who helped her solve the mystery, and the Marriott staff who took her concerns seriously!
