Woman Shares Easy Hack for Scoring Lower Hotel Rates and People Are Here for It

Finding a hotel room at a good rate can be one of the trickier parts of traveling. Of course, websites such as Expedia and Priceline have been used by savvy travelers to find hotel deals for years, but for the ultra-thrifty, those deals may not go as far they like. This is where people start coming up with frugal life hacks.

One TikTok user, @alexisgould.com, graciously shared with us her secret hotel hack that she's been using for years to get better deals on hotel rooms. It's frugal, totally legal, and fairly easy- you just have to be good with the timing!

Whoa, this is genius! We like that she recommends having a backup room booked just in case- it's smart to have a fallback in case it doesn't work. However, if done right, this seems like an excellent way to save yourself a bunch of money while traveling!

But what did other frugal life hack lovers think of her advice? User @tr2345473 said "As someone who worked in hotels 16 years, that’s one of the smarter suggestions I’ve seen." Sounds like a pretty glowing endorsement! For some thrifty travelers, this advice was already innate. "I thought everyone did this?" commented user @mahfrins.

However, a few commenters shared some caveats and things to keep in mind for anyone who attempts this. "Almost no hotel will allow you to cancel within 24 hours of check in. Most are at least 24 to 48 hrs b4 check in. Popular resorts maybe 5-7 days out," advised user @aimlessleewander. Good advice- so be sure to double-check your hotel's cancellation policy before you attempt any hedging yourself.

We're always looking for ways we can save a few bucks when we travel. We'll be sure to remember this tip the next time we're searching for a cheap room!
