With Halloween officially behind us, as hard as it is to believe, the holiday season is now among us. Thanksgiving is less than a month away, and the December holidays aren't far behind. That means that if you haven't already started planning your holiday travel, the sooner you get those plans locked in, the better — especially if those plans include taking flights.
And if you're already stressing about what those flights might cost at what is already a pretty expensive time of the year, @wallstreetjournal is sharing a few tips on TikTok. You could end up saving hundreds by using some of these!
One of the tips involves branching out from your usual airline and using a new budget airline instead, which can be a great way to save money as long as you're sure to account for things like baggage fees (yes, even for carry on luggage). She also mentioned that it's important to stay flexible on your travel dates, though we totally get that can be hard, if not impossible, to do around work at such a busy time of the year.
Finally, she also advised continuing to check flight prices even after you've booked your ticket. If they go down, you may be able to cancel your original flight, book the new one, and save the difference in the flight credit you'll receive from the first flight for future travel. Not bad!
Though traveling during the holidays is almost never going to be cheap, maybe these tips will make the blow to your bank account hurt just a little bit less when you're on your way to spend quality time with the family. Happy travels!
