Friends' Encounter with Hissing Alligator While Tubing in Florida Is Wild

This is the last thing they wanted to see.

There's a lot of fun to be had while visiting Florida, but there are a lot of things to remember when it comes to safety at the same time. The sun is a big one — it's likely hotter and sunnier there than whatever state you're coming from, making sunscreen even more important. And then, there's the wildlife, especially alligators if you happen to be unfamiliar with just how dangerous they can be.

A group of friends traveling to a national park near Fort White found themselves learning that lesson firsthand when they went floating in Ichetucknee Springs. As we can see in this TikTok video posted by @carolescrazylife, they had a terrifying encounter with alligators that could have ended very badly.

Tubing is usually a pretty relaxing activity, but on this day, it was anything but. They ended up floating past a hissing alligator sunning itself on a log in the springs, and the sheer panic they went into (including a bit of profanity) is probably how anyone would react!

They tried to stay calm, but there was a lot of freaking out going on... and fortunately, it seems like everyone was able to escape the situation safely.

Apparently, these alligators are common in this area (and in most of Florida), and according to the site Floridaing, many people manage to coexist with them in the water. Just remember to stay calm and don't provoke them — they're pretty used to having humans around, but they are still alligators.

Be safe out there!
