Harrowing Video Shows Golfers Running for Cover From Tornado in Missouri

They were so terrified!

Inclement weather can be scary, dangerous, and even life threatening at worst, but for the most part, we can predict it with enough time to make sure we're in a safe place before it hits. Hurricanes are tracked for days and weeks, and we usually know if we're in for a major thunderstorm But that might be what makes weather events like earthquakes and tornadoes so terrifying — sometimes, they can happen with absolutely no warning, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.

If a tornado is coming, it's important to hunker down somewhere safe, like a room without windows, a storm shelter, or ideally, a basement underground. But if you happen to be in the worst possible place to be when the tornado strikes — like, say, an open golf course — it can be hard to get to a safe place fast enough.

This harrowing video shared by the Today show's official TikTok account on Tuesday, May 14 shows what happened when a tornado struck near Branson, Missouri, leaving golfers who were out on a course running for cover — and for their lives.

It's easy to see just how hard the wind is blowing in this video that was taken by someone who was lucky enough to be indoors as the golfers who were still outside ran to make it in before it was too late.

Fortunately, they were all safe, which is such a relief to hear.

The Tornado in Branson

According to a local news report from KY3, the tornado took place at Payne's Valley Golf Course, which was designed by golf legend Tiger Woods and named after fellow pro golfer Payne Stewart.

Fortunately, the tornado ended up being pretty mild (yet still a tornado) with the National Weather Service ranking it an EF0 after winds of 70 mph helped it travel two miles. Yikes!

It sounds like there was no major damage to the course, other than some downed trees, which is so lucky.

The Washington Post reported that the storm became a supercell before creating a tornado that touched down on the course, surprising everyone around who didn't see it coming.

This must have been so terrifying for everyone who was there that day. It's a relief to hear that they were all safe.
