Annual ‘Goldens in Golden’ Event in Golden, Colorado Is a Dog Lover’s Dream Come True
In the mid-19th century, the Colorado Gold Rush took the Centennial State by storm as thousands of people moved in with the hopes of striking gold and making their fortunes there. Over 150 years later, another "gold rush" happens in central Colorado year after year- only the participants of this gold rush aren't in search of precious metals.
Every February, the city of Golden, Colorado, celebrates its annual "Goldens in Golden" event, drawing both locals and far-off visitors by the hundreds. You won't find many prospectors taking part in this festival, though, because this upcoming Saturday event is all about celebrating the golden retriever!
This is a dog lover's dream come true! TikTok user and golden retriever owner @goldenkonabear returns to their hometown of Golden, Colorado, every year to celebrate with hundreds of other dog owners and let their pup Kona hang out with his friends! From newborn puppies to sweet old doggies, the roads of Golden will overflow with happy golden retrievers as far as the eye can see!
With fabulous doggy costumes and whipped cream "pup cups" galore, downtown Golden is the place to be this weekend. If you're anywhere in the Denver metro area on Saturday, February 3, around mid-day, drive or take the light rail out to Golden and hang out with those sweet puppers. Bonus points if you've got a golden retriever to bring along, too!
About the "Goldens in Golden" Festival
Tomorrow, the "Goldens in Golden" event will take place between 11 am and 1 pm in Golden's downtown. According to the event page on VisitGolden.com, the event will start with a meet and greet in Parfet Park, where organizers will hand out complimentary "pup cups" like the ones shown in @goldenkonabear's video.
There will be a vendor village with festival merch and booths hosted by Golden-based pet organizations that guests can explore, and there will be multiple opportunities to join in a group photo by the town's Washington Ave. Welcome Arch at 11, 11:30, and noon. While the event technically ends at 1 pm, guests and their furry friends are free to explore the town afterwards to try and score festival deals or walk their nearby trails.
"Goldens in Golden" is free to enter, but the event organizers warn that the forecast for tomorrow shows a high likelihood of rain and snow showers in Golden. While there are no plans to cancel the event at this time, attendees should prepare for cold, wet weather and keep checking the event page in case the weather takes a turn for the worst. The organizers ask that attendees keep their furry friends on a leash, clean up after their dogs, and monitor their pups' comfort levels to keep them from getting overwhelmed.
Golden, Colorado, is ready to kick off their own annual "gold rush" once again in 2024. Will you and your pups be there?
