Flight Attendant ‘Reads’ Passengers Based on Their Airplane Outfits

She's on point!

Do you put a lot of thought into your outfit when you travel? Gone are the days where people dressed their best to catch a flight. Most of the time, I just throw on something that I know I'll be comfortable sitting down in for several hours, and wear shoes I can take on and off easily at security. Chances are, you're probably doing something along those lines.

However, some particular airplane outfits pop up often enough that flight attendants have started associating certain personality traits to them. Flight attendant and TikTok vlogger Cher listed off a few of her passenger outfit "reads" in a video on March 19. Fair warning: your fave "airplane outfit" may potentially be on this list...

OK, Cher (@cherdallas on TikTok) was absolutely on point with these. Like seriously -  don't even get me started on the people wearing rompers or bike shorts. With as germy as airplanes are, that's making a deal with the devil. Cher's definitely judging, and I can guarantee she's not the only flight attendant out there side-eyeing people's fashion choices...

Of course, some of her observations were neutral, not negative - though she was still on point with those. Like yeah, you're not going to be winning any fashion awards for cuffed sweatpants, but you're going to be comfy as heck for the entire flight, and that's what matters. And seriously, those LuLuLemon scuba fits? I completely agree with Cher here - that outfit's always being worn by either a very competitive kid or a very wifed-up lady. And just to drive the point home, commenters completely affirmed Cher's spot-on reads:

"Not me wearing a LuLu scuba only one time and it was on the way to get married,: laughed @lalalaxo52.

"Wore those exact wide leg pants with my Goyard on my honeymoon flight," admitted @leahholcombe.

"I made the jumpsuit mistake once. Never, and I mean NEVER again. I had a wet spot from the floor on my SLEEVE," @miss_morae confessed. The horror...

Is There a 'Perfect' Airplane Outfit?

At the end of the day, this is all in good fun. Flight attendants might roast certain outfits for fun, but as long as you're comfortable and feeling good in your skin, that's all that matters (just please be careful with risky fits, like wearing a jumpsuit in an airplane lavatory). But all this outfit talk did make me wonder... is there such a thing as a "perfect" airplane outfit?

Obviously, the simplest answer here is "no": the "perfect" travel outfit is going to depend on your personal sensory and physical needs, where you're traveling to, the weather, how long you're going to be on the plane, and so on. However, there are a few targets you'll ideally want to hit to maximize your comfort. In Travel + Leisure, Sophie Barnes recommends opting for breathable, sweat-wicking fabrics, wearing layers so you can adjust for temperature fluctuations in flight, and finding the right balance between style and comfort- she recommends pieces like slip-on shoes and athleisure sets for this purpose. Well, what do you know- looks like the LuLuLemon girlies just might be onto something!
