Budget Travel Expert Shares Incredible Website for Saving Major Bucks on Cruises
Booking a vacation at a reasonable price has always proven a tricky fear, and with the price of just about everything going through the roof as of late, it's harder than ever to book a luxurious getaway without breaking the bank. However, if you know your stuff, you can still find epic cruise vacations at a steal.
And by "stuff" here, I mean cost-saving resources that can potentially shave hundreds, if not thousands, off of a cruise vacation. After successfully booking a transatlantic cruise at a jawdroppingly low price, savings sleuth Shelby Reicks shared her secret with the world:
This is an amazing resource. No booking standby cabins or any other risky gambles here- you're just buying empty cabins that cruise lines have put on sale in the hopes of packing out their ships. This was how @itsshelbyreicks was able to spend only $399 on a 12-night transatlantic cruise from Baltimore to Barcelona, a trip that was originally $3,814 - nearly a 90% discount. It costs more to fly from Baltimore to Barcelona!
So here's the website you're gonna save in your browser: Vacationstogo.com. It's a slightly last-minute turnaround, as cruise companies generally put the extra cabins up for sale three months before departure, but if you're comfortable moving fast for a great deal, you can find some amazing options here. You can organize available options by cruise lines, ships, regions, ports, and even specialty cruises like themed cruises or singles cruises to find exactly what you're looking for.
Important Things to Know About Vacations To Go
One thing I did notice while playing around with the site myself is that to search under the 90 Day Ticker, you have to become a member of Vacations To Go. However, the site claims that membership is free of charge, and they only ask for your name, email, and country of residence - a pretty small price to pay to see some sweet deals.
Many Vacations To Go users showed up in the comments, verifying how exceptional this site is for finding deals - a lot of them even begged Shelby not to let the secret about this site out! However, one viewer, @usa_all_the_way, offered an important caveat that anyone using the site should take into account:
"Those are huge discounts, but heads up to people that have never been on a cruise, there's also port fees and usually mandatory gratuity, idk exact numbers but likely around 50% higher than listed."
I wouldn't say that 50% is a universal percentage in every case- it depends a lot on the cruise line and other factors. Still, they're right in that booking a cruise often comes with a lot of extra fees that many first-time cruisers forget to factor in. Before you jump on an amazing deal you find on Vacations To Go (and they have a lot of great ones), be sure to figure out all the extra fees and get the total first. According to @enigmajs in the comments, you can ask for the total price with all fees included when booking to get any confusion out of the way. Still, even with this caveat in mind, this is a serious money-saving resource that might just shave off beaucoup bucks on your next cruise vacation!
