Hiker Shares the One National Park We Need to Stop Sleeping On

If someone asked you to name a few national parks, you'd probably immediately bring up Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and maybe somewhere like Death Valley or Zion. But how much do you know about Katmai, or Dry Tortugas, or the Guadalupe Mountains? With dozens of national parks in the US and its territories, only a fraction of them get much mainstream attention.

Despite being the biggest of Utah's five national parks, Canyonlands National Park goes relatively unnoticed. One hiker, TikTok user @angeltraces, is trying to change that.

How has this place been slept on for so long? We found the footage just as breathtaking as she did- and that's just through our computer screens. We're sure there's nothing that compares to seeing it firsthand. The vast size, bold colors, and striking rock formations of the park inspire a sense of overwhelming awe. We can see why she finds her visits there so restoring to her spirit!

As gorgeous and massive as this place is, why do so many people overlook it? User @no.pengus.in.alaska offered a plausible explanation: "It's pretty great but most people don't want to be in the desert that long. That's why it's not as popular as parks with trees." That makes sense. While Canyonlands is gorgeous, it's not a place to explore without ample water and sunscreen!

For hikers and tourists who can handle the harsh conditions, though, Canyonlands is a hit. "Did a solo hike over Christmas there and it was magical! Got a good backpacking trip planned soon there," informed @shoesdontsnooze. "The White Rim Trail is so fun!! Gotta try it if you can," recommended @strawberrypineapplenow. "So underrated! I liked it more than the Grand Canyon and they only get 10% of the visitors," agreed @beth.blake03.

In fact, it's because of the lack of visitors that some people were concerned about this video getting traction! "Shhhhhhhhh. Don't tell anyone. They will ruin it," begged @dudewitsolitude. LOL, isn't that always the case with hidden gems? Well, you can either spread the word to your friends or keep it under wraps- but either way, if you want to experience the best that Utah's national parks have to offer, don't sleep on the Canyonlands!
