While hiking is a fun sport that can take you to remote natural spots few others have seen, long and difficult hiking routes are not accessible for everyone. But what if we told you that one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the United States was accessible by a mere quarter-mile walk?
Californian TikTok user @april_chu takes us on a short and easy hike to Burney Falls. Located at the McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park in Shasta County, California, Burney Falls was once dubbed "the Eighth Wonder of the World" by former president and conservationist Teddy Roosevelt. It's quite a sight to see, and the fact that you can get to it via short hike that's easy for people of all ages is even better!
Wow. That is an absolutely gorgeous waterfall! The shimmering waters plunging into the deep blue pool make it look almost like something out of a painting! We get where Teddy Roosevelt was coming from... this place really is a wonder.
Others who had seen it up close and personal were blown away by its beauty. "It’s a beautiful place. I was there in June. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼," admired @adamcarr79. "Was there in July, beautiful waterfall, $10 per car for day use, plenty space & tables for picnic," shared @quyduong2. Not bad- sounds like a lovely way to spend the day!
Of course, we were curious, and others were too- "Can you swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls?" asked @stephenhamel1. "I’m sure you can but the water moves pretty fast and it’s super cold! 42 degrees year round. 🥶," responded @april_chu. Brr... duly noted!
We think Burney Falls would be a wonderful place to visit. Of course, if you do go, be sure to treat the area with respect. As @lisagalirunner added in the comments, "This is Pit River tribal land. Please honor our land and pick up your trash and take it with you."
