Video of ‘Two Seasons Colliding’ in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Parkway Is Awe-Inspiring
With its 469 miles of road weaving their way through the western mountains of Virginia and North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Parkway transforms into one of the best leaf-peeping drives in the nation every autumn. From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Smokies, the mountain slopes along the parkway are consumed with fiery foliage as far as the eye can see.
This autumn, though, drivers along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Blowing Rock, North Carolina got to witness a special treat. One lucky witness shared an awe-inspiring October 19 video of "two seasons colliding" in the mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We couldn't believe how magical this was!
That's poetry in motion! Lucky outdoor lover @outdoorswithcape was in Blowing Rock just in time to witness the first snowfall of the season in North Carolina. A light sprinkling of early autumn snow kissed the slopes of the southern Blue Ridge Mountains, dusting local communities like Blowing Rock and Asheville.
What really made this autumn snowfall special, though, was getting to watch the "two seasons colliding," as @outdoorswithcape put it. The brilliant autumn foliage still clung to the trees, but the white snow that blanketed it all looked like something straight off of a Christmas card.
The Blue Ridge Parkway landscape married fall and winter into a beautiful vista of red, orange and white... simply magical. The experience moved Cape very deeply. "Monday is an experience I'll never forget,' he shared in his video's caption.
Temps in Blowing Rock have since crept back up into the 50s and 60s, and the dreamlike mid-October snow didnt stick around for long. Still, with the upcoming season being an El Niño winter, we can likely expect a cooler, wetter winter for the South. Something tells me these magical snows will come back to the Blue Ridge Mountains very soon!
