Polite Bear in Florida Helps Itself to a Single Piece of Candy on Halloween
Handing out candy to trick-or-treaters is one of life's simple pleasures, but sometimes your night's already booked up with Halloween plans- or you have your own little crew of trick-or-treaters to take 'round the neighborhood. In those cases, the best you can do is leave a big bowl of candy out on your porch, turn the light on, and hope some greedy trick-or-treater doesn't make off with the whole thing!
When it comes to taking free, unguarded food, even the most ravenous trick-or-treater can't hold a candle to a hungry black bear. Yet when a black bear descended onto an unattended candy bowl this past Halloween night, it managed to mind its manners!
How surprisingly polite! Uploaded to Youtube by WEAR Channel 3 News, this amusing doorbell camera video comes to us from Navarre, Florida, a small beach town in the Florida Panhandle. It was Halloween Night, and a ever-enticing candy bucket was left unattended on the porch as a trio of sly black bears came into view.
For a moment, it seemed that all hope was lost. With three hungry black bears hanging around, that candy was sure to disappear in seconds...right? You'd think that, yet somehow, these unexpected trick-or-treaters defied that expectation.
Two of the curious bears outright ignored the bucket, but their third furry friend stayed behind just long enough to politely take one piece of candy- leaving enough behind for his fellow human trick-or-treaters to enjoy. Way to show 'em how it's done, bear!
Northwest Florida isn't a place most people would consider "bear country" compared to places like Colorado, California, or New England. However, there's a pretty considerable black bear population living there. Just this June, a black bear startled beachgoers by swimming past a beach in Destin, Florida- less than an hour's drive from this Halloween house!
Normally we'd advise anyone living in a bear-inhabited area not to leave food out on their porch- but on Halloween night, sometimes it's hard not to. Still, if you're going to have any bears raid your unattended candy stash on Halloween, better hope that they're as polite as these three!
