Cool New Attraction in NYC Is About To Be On Everyone’s To-Do List
New York City has no shortage of amazing, historic, and immersive attractions- especially when we're talking great museums. Sure, there's big ones like The Met, The Natural History Museum, and The MoMA, but if you really want to get weird with it and explore something uniquely off the beaten path, you don't have to look very far to find it.
With that in mind, we've got a mind-bending new interactive museum to add to your NYC to-do list. Yesterday on October 26, New York City's "hottest new attraction" opened to the public, and there's no better way to learn more about than just diving right in!
NYC travel guide @jeffreyinnyc was among the lucky number who got to be there for the grand opening of the weirdest and wildest new attraction in the Big Apple: The Balloon Museum. Unlike a brick-and-mortar museum like The Met, Balloon Museum is actually a curated art exhibition and immersive experience that travels around the world. According to their website, the original Balloon Museum was born in Rome, Italy in 2020, and traveled across Europe to Milan, Paris, and Madrid. They're expanding across the globe now, but currently there are only two active Balloon Museum locations: Naples and NYC.
So what can you do at the Balloon Museum? The better question is "what can't you do?" The air-centric art experience was built around the principles of freedom of expression, sensory stimulation, and pushing beyond the classical boundaries of art. It's practically a grown-up playground!
Jeffrey literally dove into the experience with a leap into their gigantic ball pit, and continued his playful visit by bopping inflatable art pieces, exploring a blow-up maze, dropping into the world of virtual reality, and even creating art by playing with a giant floating ball covered in markers. Uh, with that in mind, maybe don't wear your nicest threads to this place.
Of course, some TikTok commenters saw a few... concerning drawbacks. "How do they sanitize it?" wondered @ellrehz. Not gonna lie, I had the same thought when I saw that ball pit. But never fear: in their FAQ page, the Balloon Museum clarifies that they use special machines that quickly sanitize the "Hypercosmo" ball pit.
The Balloon Museum is located at Pier 36 in Manhattan's Lower East Side. This limited-run museum will only be in New York City for a few months, with the last date on its calendar being January 14. Don't miss your opportunity to take this psychedelic dive into another world of art!
