Ann Arbor Boy Leads Police on Wild Goosechase Riding on Stolen Forklift

That's not something you see every day!

Though wild and oftentimes dangerous, police car chases have a grip on the minds of a true-crime loving public. Just think about it- nobody has seen a white Ford Bronco and not thought of OJ Simpson since 1994. But the infamous Ford Bronco might be on the verge of getting unseated from its "Most Infamous Getaway Vehicle" spot by a more unlikely contender- a blue construction forklift, driven by a 12-year-old.

In Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 25, a middle schooler managed to make off with an unattended forklift that had the keys left inside. What followed next was an hour-long police chase as the forklift-driving deliquent lead the cops through the streets of Ann Arbor.

On TikTok, @nbcnews uploaded footage taken from police dash cameras as the 12-year-old led them on a wild goosechase through town for a solid hour. The kid was reportedly able to steal the construction vehicle from outside an Ann Arbor middle school as the keys had been left inside the cab, merely hidden out of sight. The boy had climbed inside the unlocked cab, found the hidden keys, and well- the rest is true crime history.

The police trailed the juvenile delinquent in a slow chase, rarely topping speeds of more than 20 mph. Despite the relatively sluggish pace of the chase, the kid managed to turn the unlawful joyride into a demolition derby, striking an estimated 10 parked vehicles. Fortunately, nobody was hurt amidst all the vehicular mayhem.

The kid couldn't outrun the law forever, though, and was eventually apprehended by police and brought to a juvenile detention center. As the perp in the case is a minor, he has so far not been identified to the public. According to Cincinatti NBC affiliate WLWT, the investigation into this incident is still ongoing. For better or worse, this was a police chase for the history books- but hopefully this juvenile forklift thief will learn that crime doesn't pay!
