Woman's 80-Square-Foot NYC Micro-Studio Apartment Is About the Size of a Parking Space
When it comes to New York City apartments, there are two things that people always talk about: how expensive they are, and how small they are. While it's true that some people pay rent on a studio apartment that would be enough for a mortgage on a whole house in another part of the country, that's part of the experience. It's all about location, and for some residents, it's worth it to pay a premium to be in the middle of all the action.
But no matter how good the location is, this apartment that's going viral on Twitter is probably too small for a lot of people to even imagine! In this video from @cnbcmakeit, one New Yorker is giving a tour of her micro-studio apartment, which amounts to an unbelievable 80 square feet.
The woman, Aliana Randazzo, says she pays $650 per month for the space, which sounds great in theory... but maybe not so much when you consider that she describes her apartment as the size of a "parking lot space."
Her kitchen is basically a small counter with a sink, stove, and a microwave mounted to the wall above (with zero actual counter space to prep food). Downstairs, there is also a living space and tiny coat closet that might fit two or three coats.
She had to climb a ladder to get to her bedroom... though calling it that might be a bit too generous. The space is just big enough for a bed, and she can't even stand up or she'll hit her head on the ceiling. Ouch!
According to what she told CNBC, she originally decided to move in to the tiny space so she had room in her budget for travel, but it sounds like she's happier in her new home — a townhouse she shares with roommates, where she has plenty of space.
"I don't even know what to do with all this space," she admitted.
After living in a shoebox, we have a feeling she'll figure it out!
