Drury Inn and Suites in Middletown, Ohio

The Best Hotel Deal in Middletown, Ohio

My family recently went on vacation, and we needed a place to stay overnight. When looking at hotels, the price per night tops my list of priorities. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a decent room in a safe area.

In June, we decided to visit Hueston Woods State Park in Ohio for the fireworks show in July. With only a month to plan around a major holiday, our choices were limited. Hueston Woods is in College Corner, Ohio, and as expected, the lodge was filled. Not wanting to camp on this trip, we needed a hotel.

I did my research, spending time comparing prices for hotels in the surrounding area. Hotels.com ended up having the best deals, and after reading countless reviews online my husband and I decided to book a room at The Drury Inn and Suites in Middletown. Only 45 minutes from the park, it was the best overall deal in the area.

Check-In

Guests can start checking in at 3 p.m.

Checking in was a pleasant experience. Stephanie, the lady at the front desk, welcomed us in with a smile. Fast and efficient, she explained the various amenities available as well as other important information concerning our stay.

Complimentary Dinner

Drury Inn offers free dinnertime snacks and drinks, an amenity they call the 5:30 Kickback. From 5:30 p.m.–7 p.m., hot dishes, cold drinks, and tasty snacks are provided. Luckily, we checked in just in time to take advantage.

The menu changes daily. On the evening of our stay, the dining area offered:

  • Grilled chicken
  • Baked potatoes
  • Steamed vegetables
  • Parmesan Alfredo
  • Hot dogs
  • Spring mix salad
  • Nachos
  • Popcorn
  • Soda
  • Water
  • Coffee

Additionally, adults are given cocktail vouchers. Redeem them at the bar for three drinks per night per stay.

The food was delicious, and despite walking through at 6:30 p.m., every platter was full, and the meals were still able to be enjoyed hot.

The Room

We stayed in a deluxe room on the upper floor. This room includes:

  • Two queen beds
  • Refrigerator
  • Microwave
  • A lounge chair and ottoman
  • Desk and chair
  • Coffee maker with two caffeinated pods and one decaf pod
  • Cable TV

The room was spacious, clean, and inviting. There was plenty of counter space available in the bathroom to spread out our toiletries and my makeup. Additionally, the tub was big, and the water pressure was just right.

We stayed on the fourth floor and were pleasantly surprised at the size and speed of the elevator. It was quick and smooth each time we stepped on.

Wi-Fi

As a tech family, having access to fast internet service is a must. Once we headed up to our room, I pulled out my laptop and ran a speed test. The connection is quick:

  • Download: 183.34
  • Upload: 174.35
  • Ping: 7

Not only was I able to write and research, having my customary five to ten tabs open at the same time, but my son was able to game and watch YouTube.

Pool and Spa

The pool area was cozy. As you walk in, the hot tub is straight ahead, with plenty of seating along the side of the room. The towel cabinet is on the opposite wall. A combination indoor, outdoor pool is at the far end. This is a cool area, as the pools are separated by a wall of glass with a rubber section at the bottom. You can easily swim back and forth should you choose to do so. There is also plenty of seating outside to relax and sunbathe.

The pool is open until 10 p.m. Because it was hot on the day we stayed (temperatures were in the upper 90s), the pool was busy. We waited to swim until later in the evening. Heading down around 8:30 p.m., there was only one family swimming and relaxing in the hot tub. At this later hour, there were plenty of fresh towels in the cabinet. The pool water was refreshing, and my son enjoyed cooling off with a swim while I relaxed in the soothing warm jets of the hot tub.

Complimentary Breakfast

A hot breakfast is served Monday–Friday from 6 a.m.–9 a.m. and 7 a.m.–10 a.m. on weekends. There are options to suit every taste. In the morning, we enjoyed breakfast. The menu included:

  • Biscuits and sausage gravy
  • Sausage patties
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Breakfast potatoes
  • Oatmeal
  • English muffins, cinnamon toast, and regular toast
  • Yogurt
  • Juice varieties
  • Coffee
  • Soda

The breakfast was fresh, delicious, and filling. In addition to the seating inside, guests can opt to enjoy their meal outdoors on the patio.

The Lobby

There were several seating areas around the hotel where guests could relax.

As you walk in, there is a large couch and chair in front of a cabinet filled with artwork. Beyond is a cozy nook area, along with a table and chairs. There is also a computer and printer set up in the corner.

The hotel walls are decorated with interesting photos and artwork depicting local historical areas of interest, beautiful architecture, and pieces made by hometown artists.

Check-Out

Guests must check out by 11 a.m. This process is super simple at this location. All you need to do is drop your key cards in the recycling box displayed in front of the reception area as you leave.

This Is Where You Should Stay

My family loves to travel, and over the years, we've stayed in many hotels. The Drury Inn and Suites in Middletown, Ohio, was, by far, one of the best. Built in 2007 and renovated in 2017, the hotel looked brand new during our stay in 2023. All of the staff were welcoming, friendly, and professional. The beds were comfortable, and the other guests respected quiet time. There were no neighbors thumping the walls nor loud, obnoxious people roaming the halls in the middle of the night. The complimentary breakfast was delicious, and the 5:30 Kickback was a pleasant surprise.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience. Our time at this hotel has convinced us to stay at other Drury Inn locations during future travels. I give this hotel a ten out of ten. It was simply excellent.
